Scaling

Scaling involves gently removing plaque and calculus deposits using specialized instruments and without harming your teeth. The ultrasonic scaler uses vibrations to loosen hardened tartar that sticks to the teeth/in between teeth. Water spray is also used to wash away the debris.

  • Removes Subgingival Deposits: Scaling targets not just visible plaque but also tartar deposits below the gum line that are otherwise hard to clean.
  • Prevents Gum Disease: By eliminating plaque and calculus, it helps prevent gingivitis and periodontitis, protecting overall gum health.
  • Polishes Teeth: Following scaling, teeth are often polished to smoothen the surface, which reduces the chance of future plaque buildup.
  • Improves Breath: Scaling removes bacteria-laden deposits, significantly reducing bad breath caused by gum infections or plaque.

Polishing

Polishing is usually carried out after scaling to remove stains and make your teeth feel smooth and shiny. Polishing is done by scooping up a toothpaste-like material into a soft rubber cup, which is then spun around the teeth.

  • Enhances Aesthetic Appeal: Polishing removes surface stains caused by tea, coffee, or smoking, improving the visual appearance of teeth.
  • Smoothens Tooth Surface: The process creates a smoother tooth surface, making it harder for plaque to adhere in the future.
  • Uses Specialized Tools: A soft rubber cup with a polishing paste is used to gently scrub the teeth, ensuring comfort during the procedure.
  • Reduces Bacterial Accumulation: By eliminating residual deposits and stains, it reduces bacterial buildup, contributing to better oral hygiene.
  • Leaves a Fresh Feel: Polishing leaves teeth feeling smooth, clean, and refreshed, enhancing the overall dental experience.
